Exploring East Kalimantan

When hear Kalimantan or Borneo, this mind imagines a world of adventurous island where we may explore the jungle, river, sea and enjoy the tranquility of its islands. The various collections of its flora and fauna which is the richness of the island give us the opportunity of never ending exploration.

One part of Kalimantan that will be a good start or end of the journey is the Islands of Berau at West Kalimantan. The islands consist of several islands like Nabucco, Sangalakki, Kakaban and Maratua who offer the beauty of the view and intimacy to its nature. The islands give their own characteristics and collection that cannot be found on other islands, so, it will enrich the experience.

Nabucco Island offers the unique collection of coconut crabs that won’t be found at other island. The beauty of the underwater scenes will fulfill the eagerness of every diver who wants to find a distinct vista. The groups of eagle rays that consist of thousands of eagle ray fishes that swim freely are the most beautiful view to explore. The excitement won’t end as the hammer jaws swim across in front of the diver’s eyes. Tuna and sea turtle which are the inhabitant of the island will complete the performance.

Kakaban Island is the other place to accomplish the visit. The things that we can do at this island are jungle tracking, snorkeling at the sea and at the lake. The lake is formed for hundreds years ago and it has unique jelly fish that won’t sting and other under water fauna.

When we want to see manta ray, we have to visit Sangalakki Island. This island is still pure so that we may find the huge collection of manta ray.

The other island that is also giving its own collection is Maratua. Here, we may dive and snorkel to see groups of barracuda.

When we visit the islands of Berau we may stay at the Nabucco Island Resort. The resort gives the ultimate privileged for every visitor.

How to get there?

Take flight from Jakarta or Bali to Balikpapan. From Balikpapan take the flight to Berau that will last for one hour. If you will stay at Nabucco, take the boat from Berau that will last for three hours.
